Susan Armstrong

Vice President, Business Continuity & Data Privacy – SSGA

Susan is a Vice President and Global Head the Business Continuity and Data Privacy Programs with State Street Global Advisors. State Street Global Advisors is the investment management division of State Street Corporation and the world’s largest asset manager. Susan has 20+ years’ experience in Program Management where she has spent a good portion of her career developing, implementing and managing all aspects of a comprehensive Business Continuity Program – Incident Management, Contingency Planning, and Disaster Recovery. Due in part to her increased awareness and innovative management of the BC program, Susan was tasked with formalizing a privacy program within the first line of defense to work in harmony with the corporate privacy office.

Prior to joining Global Advisors, Susan was the Director of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery for First Marblehead. At First Marblehead, she initiated and led incident management, contingency planning and recovery efforts across the organization. She successfully implemented a formalized organizational structure embedding accountability and increased awareness across the business for plans, incident management and testing. Prior to joining First Marblehead, Susan was a Senior Program Manager at Sun Life Financial where she led the day to day Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Program and was instrumental in developing a comprehensive North American Record Management Program.

Susan is a Certified Business Continuity Planner from the Disaster Recovery Institute International, a member of the DRI Women in Business Continuity Management Committee. Susan is a graduate of Mount Wachusett Community College in Executive Office Administration.

Michael Barrow

Global Resiliency Crisis Lead – eBay

Michael has international experience in building and sustaining Crisis Management programs and works with businesses in China, Europe, Australia and the Americas. He served in the United States Marine Corps, after which he was a police officer for 17 years. After leaving law enforcement, he has worked as an Emergency Manager with Ascension Health, the Director of Emergency Management for a large school district, as a Risk Manager with Whole Foods Market Global Risk Program and currently works as eBay’s Crisis Lead on their Global Resiliency Program.

Michael Bouchard

Chief Security Officer – Janus Global Operations

Michael R. Bouchard is the Chief Security Officer of Janus Global Operations based in Reston Virginia. He offers more than 30 years of senior law enforcement and security management experience. In this role, he is responsible for developing and managing corporate policies and guidelines relating to domestic and foreign security matters which impacted corporate resources; including people, physical assets and business interests.  He is responsible for conducting risk and threat assessments, physical security, traveler security, government clearances, internal investigations, providing guidance to employees on workplace violence, business continuity and crisis planning as well as working with business managers to incorporate security measures into business practices.

He retired from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) where he served in a number of key positions such as:  Assistant to the Director, Assistant Director Field Operations, Deputy Assistant Director for Strategic Intelligence and Information and Chief of Arson and Explosives Programs. During his tenure with ATF, he supervised the National Response Teams and managed ATF’s efforts at the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks and was one of the three incident commanders during the Beltway Sniper Investigation.

Prior to joining ATF, he was a police officer. He earned a Master’s of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, Washington DC, and a Bachelors of Science degree in Fire and Arson Investigation from the University of New Haven, West Haven, Connecticut. He also attended the “Pinnacle” course for senior flag officers at the National Defense University, Washington DC and was a member of the Senior Executive Service for more than four years.

He is a member of the ASIS Board of Directors and is active in a number of organizations such as: the International Association of Police Chiefs, International Association of Arson Investigators, the ASIS Chief Security Officer Roundtable, Police Executive Research Forum, International Stability Operations Association. He serves on the Technical Advisory Board, Henry Lee School of Criminal Justice, University of New Haven and is a member of the adjunct faculty at American University, Washington, DC.

Bob Connors

Director, Preparedness and Crisis Management – Raytheon

Bob Connors is director of preparedness & crisis management for Raytheon Company. In this role, he is primarily responsible for the enterprise wide business continuity and crisis management program that covers hundreds of locations in 80 nations.

Connors has over 30 years of experience that includes business continuity/crisis management, homeland security/emergency management, systems programming, systems analysis, manufacturing, infrastructure deployment, project management and process management.

He is a member of the Defense Industrial Base and Critical Manufacturing Sector Coordinating Councils, US Chamber National Security Task Force and previously served on the Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team Advisory Panel and FEMA National Advisory Council.

In addition to his primary role, Connors serves as the company’s lead for supporting wounded warriors and has led efforts to raise over $500K through sponsorships and employee fundraising.

Bob earned a Bachelor of Science with highest honors in Criminal Justice/Homeland Security & Counterterrorism and is currently pursuing a MS in Cybersecurity Studies at the American Military University. He completed leadership programs at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense & Security and National Defense University iCollege. He is an alumnus of the FBI Citizen’s Academy and served on the alumni association board. He holds professional certifications from the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, Disaster Recovery Institute International and Business Continuity Institute.

Pete Dowling

Special Advisor – Centrallo

Mr. Dowling recently concluded a thirteen year career as Managing Director, Operational Risk Management, for AXA Equitable, a worldwide insurance giant. As such, he was responsible for assessment and mitigation of the firm’s operational risk. He also ran company operations in the areas of business continuity, crisis management, information security, privacy, physical security, records management, and risk and insurance. During his time with AXA, he also served as Chairman of the Bankers and Brokers Roundtable. This group, comprised of the chief security officers of the world’s twenty largest financial services firms, serves as a collaborative platform for sharing of best practices in the ever challenging New York City security environment.

Mr. Dowling is presently Special Advisor to the CEO of Centrallo Powered by Group Do Lists. He is also a director with Fedora Security, a company using innovative security solutions though smart technology.

Prior to his time at AXA, he enjoyed a twenty-six year career with the United States Secret Service in a variety of executive positions, most notably, during the last five years of his tenure, as Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office. He also ran the Liaison Division, and accordingly, was global external representative of the Agency. He was also part of the senior management team of the Presidential Protective Division.

Prior to his role with the Secret Service, Mr. Dowling served with the Ocean City and Montgomery County Police Departments. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

David Kalson

Principal – Kalson Communications, LLC

David Kalson, principal of Kalson Communications and Partner with Beacon Advisors, Inc., is an expert in issues and crisis management. He has more than 25 years experience providing strategic communications counsel, on-the-ground assistance and highly targeted media relations and “new media” programs to manage issues and crises as well as reputation enhancement for both profit and not-for-profit organizations. Business sectors he has counseled include energy, food and beverage, financial services, healthcare, consumer products and technology. He has designed and implemented communication / media relations programs, often emphasizing Web-based strategies, to address issues including data security breaches, environmental accidents, product recalls, financial & mismanagement problems, high-profile lawsuits, criminal behaviors, attacks by opposition groups, government/regulatory challenges, competitive challenges and labor disputes. Companies he has counseled in relation to crisis drills, plans and crisis management include Cargill, Dunkin’ Brands, Cadbury Schweppes, Staples, Entergy, Eli Lilly, Irving Oil, Canaport LNG and the American Automobile Association (AAA)

Leanne Metz, PMP, MBCI

Associate Director – Mead Johnson Nutrition

Leanne is an experienced business continuity and project management professional.   She has developed and implemented global programs in the areas of business continuity, continuous improvement, and change management.   Most recently she has been leading Mead Johnson Nutrition’s global business continuity program, conducting training and exercises throughout Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

Areas of expertise include business continuity, project management, Lean Six Sigma, innovation and cross-functional team leadership.  Leanne was named “North America Business Continuity Newcomer of the Year” by the Business Continuity Institute in 2014.    She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI).

Leanne serves on the Board of Directors, and the Crisis Committee of Albion Fellows Bacon Center, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent domestic and sexual violence and to empower victims through advocacy, education, support services and collaborative partnerships.

Leanne has a BS in Organizational Management.
